Craig Craig (4th Degree Black belt)
Sensei Craig S. Craig is the founder and Chief Instructor of Craig’s Kempo Karate Academy. He began his study of Shaolin Kempo Karate as a teenager under Master Joseph Dugay. Before he had earned his Black Belt, Sensei Craig joined the U.S. Army, where he volunteered for service with the U.S. Army Airborne Rangers (an elite Special Forces unit). During this service he put his martial arts skills to use and helped train his fellow Rangers in unarmed combat.
After completing his service with the Rangers, Sensei Craig returned home and became a paramedic. At this time, he also placed his study of the martial arts on hold. This pause in his training was short lived. Following an injury to his shoulder, Sensei Craig sought a path to recovery and returned to his passion for the martial arts, recommitting himself to the study of Shaolin Kempo. He joined a local Dojo and started training for his Shodan (1st Degree Black Belt). Quickly discovering that he had not only a passion for practicing the martial arts, but for training others in them as well, Sensei Craig earned his Shodan in Shaolin Kempo Karate, and opened Craig’s Kempo Karate Academy.
To broaden his training in Kempo Karate, Sensei Craig studied under Master Clark and earned his Nidan (2nd degree Black Belt) in that art. Further expanding his studies, he began his training under Master Moran and earned the rank of Sandan (3rd Degree Black Belt) in Bushido Zen Kenpo.
Sensei Craig is a member of the American Pressure Point Institute, and is a certified Instructor of the American Pressure Point Self Defense System.
Sensei Craig is also member of the World Martial Arts Federation and was inducted in to the WMAF as Instructor of the Year for 2008.
By blending the best elements of his cumulative experiences, Sensei Craig has developed a teaching style that focuses on bringing out the highest levels of accomplishment and self-esteem in his students. Through the creation of numerous after school and enrichment programs, Sensei Craig has made Kempo accessible to students who may not otherwise be able to study.
In an effort to set a high standard and example for which his students may strive, Sensei Craig continues to study with Master Moran and grow as a martial artist.

Ed Gazarian (1st Degree Black Belt)
Sensei Ed began his training in Shaolin Kempo with Sensei Craig shortly after completing his undergraduate studies. He continued training at Craig’s Kempo Karate Academy through his graduate coursework, and was awarded the rank of Shodan (1st degree Black Belt) in the summer of 2007.
The journey to Shodan provided Sensei Ed with time to understand his passion for passing along the knowledge he has gained to a new generation of Martial Artists, while continuing his own training as well. To this end, following a brief stint as a research analyst in the software industry, Sensei Ed began teaching classes under Sensei Craig’s supervision.
After earning his Shodan ranking, Sensei Ed was eager to broaden his experience in the instruction of the Martial Arts, and began teaching as an instructor at Craig’s Kempo Karate Academy.
Sensei Ed still studies under Sensei Craig today, and is actively working to further his training, expand his teaching experience, and deepen his understanding of the Martial Arts.
Outside the dojo, Sensei Ed spends his time writing, playing the guitar, piano and saxophone, and singing with his band. He speaks three languages, and loves to travel, regularly attending events organized by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, of which he is a contributing member. Currently he is pursuing a graduate degree in English, at Harvard University, and serves on the board of directors of a Boston-based non-profit group he co-founded in 2007.
Brian Vail (2nd Degree Black Belt)
Brian J. Vail is an instructor at Craig's Kempo Karate Academy, and has been studying Kempo Karate under Sensei Craig for almost 4 years.
His interest in karate began as a child, watching Bruce Lee movies. Having little to no follow through, and even less ambition as a child, his training in the Martial Arts would wait over 25 years to begin.
In pursuit of an activity that didn't involve sitting behind a desk, he began training with Sensei Craig in January of 2003. In 2004 he was invited to join the Black Dragon Demonstration Team, of which he is still an active member.
Having received his Black Belt in June of 2007, Brian continues to train under Sensei Craig to grow as a marital artist and to become an even better instructor to our students.
When he is not teaching, Sensei Brian works in the dental software industry, where he began working in support of a single office shortly after high school. He later became a trainer and support professional with a dental software company, and has now progressed into a computer-programming role with his organization.
Jackie Salvas (2nd Degree Black Belt)
Jackie (or Ms. Salvas, as her students know her) began her martial arts training with Sensei Craig while still in middle school. Over the years, Jackie has consistently distinguished herself among the students at Craig's Kempo Karate Academy, and continues to do so to this day.
After earning her Jr. Black Belt, Jackie was eager to begin the process of becoming a certified Sensei at the dojo, and underwent a rigorous instructor training course with Sensei Craig.
Today, Jackie continues to train, and is also an active member of the dojo's teaching staff. She continues to impress her instructors, and that same commitment leads her to successes as an instructor, herself.
